What happens at checkout
Take payment at checkout for the order that would go over the limit, with Quay on Shopify Plus
On Shopify Plus, tick the box under Payment terms at checkout in Quay's Settings and click Save; on other plans, Pay on order takes net terms off once the company is over its limit.
Quay is a Shopify app that enforces per-company credit limits and late-payment rules at B2B checkout for wholesale merchants.
Works on: Shopify Plus only · About 1 minute · Matches Quay as of November 2026
This works for companies your Quay plan covers that are on a Pay on order policy (see Set Quay’s action over the credit limit). Without it, the order that takes such a company over its limit still goes on payment terms, and only the orders after it are paid at checkout.
Turn it on
- In Quay, open Settings.
- Under Payment terms at checkout, tick Take payment at checkout for the order that would go over the limit.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page. The first time, Shopify asks for your permission in its own window: choose Update there.
- Quay shows “Settings saved”.
The company’s other orders stay on terms while it’s within its limit. Once it is over, every order is paid at checkout until the balance is back under.
Quay takes the terms off that order even if your checkout offers no way to pay at checkout, so keep at least one payment method buyers can pay with there.
Quay may also offer the same switch with a Turn on button: in step 5 of the setup guide while the guide is open, and on the Dashboard, the page Quay opens on, once the guide is closed.
Turn it off
Untick Take payment at checkout for the order that would go over the limit and click Save. The order that takes a company over its limit goes on terms again.
If it doesn’t turn on
- “Shopify’s permission is needed to turn this on. Save again and choose Update in Shopify’s window.” means the permission window was closed or declined. Click Save again and choose Update in Shopify’s window.
- “Shopify didn’t turn this on: your store has the most payment customizations Shopify allows. Delete one in Settings › Payments › Payment customizations, then press Try again.” means Shopify’s limit is reached. Delete one payment customization in Shopify admin, then click Try again in Quay.
- “Choose a Quay plan to turn this on.” means you need to be on a Quay plan or trial to change this. See Change your plan in Quay.
What happens next
The next order that would take a company on Pay on order over its limit is paid at checkout instead of going on terms. Add the Payment terms notice so buyers read why.
