What happens at checkout
Add Quay's Payment terms notice to your Shopify Plus checkout
On Shopify Plus, click Open checkout editor in Quay's Settings and add the Payment terms notice to Checkout; on other plans, Pay on order takes net terms off once the company is over its limit.
Quay is a Shopify app that enforces per-company credit limits and late-payment rules at B2B checkout for wholesale merchants.
Works on: Shopify Plus only · About 2 minutes · Matches Quay as of November 2026
The notice tells buyers on the payment step why an order can’t go on payment terms. Shopify doesn’t let apps add it for you, so you add it once.
- In Quay, open Settings.
- Under Payment terms at checkout, find the Payment terms notice card and click Open checkout editor. Shopify’s checkout editor opens in a new tab.
- In the editor’s Apps list, click + next to Payment terms notice and choose Checkout as the place to add it.
- Click Save in the editor. The notice is now part of your checkout.
Quay can’t check whether the notice is in place, so the card keeps showing these steps. While the setup guide is open, its step 5 on the Dashboard, the page Quay opens on, shows the same steps under “Also add the payment terms notice to checkout”.
What buyers read
The notice shows only when an order can’t go on payment terms because of Quay, for example on a Pay on order policy (see Set Quay’s action over the credit limit). It has one message per cause, the same for every buyer at the company:
- Order that would go over the limit: “Payment terms aren’t available for this order” and “This order is more than your company’s available credit, so it needs to be paid now. Smaller orders can still go on payment terms.”
- Company with no credit left: “Payment terms aren’t available for this order” and “Your company has no available credit left, so this order needs to be paid now.”
- Company on pay on order: “Payment terms are paused for your company, but other payment methods still work.”
Each message ends with your contact line, “Please contact our accounts team at” your Buyer contact email, or “Please contact our accounts team.” while that field is blank. In Settings, under Checkout messages, the group Payment terms notice, if you added it to checkout previews all three.
What happens next
Buyers whose order can't go on payment terms now read why on the payment step, followed by your contact line.
