What happens at checkout
Choose what Quay does when a company's invoices are overdue
In a Quay policy, under Overdue escalation, set the day past due when a late company moves to Pay on order or is blocked from new orders; Quay lifts it once the company pays what is overdue.
Quay is a Shopify app that enforces per-company credit limits and late-payment rules at B2B checkout for wholesale merchants.
Works on: any Shopify plan with B2B · About 2 minutes · Matches Quay as of November 2026
- In Quay, open Policies and click the policy’s name.
- Under Enforcement, find Overdue escalation.
- To take payment terms away from a late company, tick Pay on order for unpaid invoices and type the day. The day counts days past due: 0 is the invoice’s due date, and a new day starts at midnight in your store’s time zone.
- To stop a late company from ordering at all, tick Block new orders for unpaid invoices and type its day. When both are on, the block’s day must be later than the Pay on order day.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page. If companies use the policy, Quay asks to confirm, for example “Update policy assigned to 4 companies?”. Click Update 4 companies.
- Quay shows “Saved. Recomputing enforcement for 4 companies in the background.” That means Quay is updating what checkout does for those companies. It usually takes a few seconds, and you don’t need to wait on the page.
You can turn on either step, both, or neither. With both off, the editor says “Overdue invoices have no effect on new orders.” If the days are in the wrong order, the editor says so under the day you changed, and Save stays off until you fix it. A step at day 0 shows “Day 0 is the due date. An order without payment terms is due as soon as it is placed.”
What the buyer sees
- Pay on order for unpaid invoices: from that day, the company’s orders are paid at checkout, not on terms. The buyer pays with any other payment method your checkout offers.
- Block new orders for unpaid invoices: from that day, the company cannot place an order. The buyer reads “This order can’t be completed. Your company has overdue invoices.” (or “an invoice due today” for a step at day 0), followed by your contact line. You set that contact in Settings: see Set Quay’s action over the credit limit.
What happens next
From the day you set, Quay applies the step to each company on the policy that has an invoice that many days past due, while your Quay plan covers the company. Once the company pays its overdue invoices, the step lifts by itself.
