Credit limits and policies
Create a policy on Quay's Policies page and assign companies
A Quay policy is the set of checkout rules you give companies, for going over the credit limit and for overdue invoices: create it on Policies, then assign it from Companies.
Quay is a Shopify app that enforces per-company credit limits and late-payment rules at B2B checkout for wholesale merchants.

A policy is a set of rules you assign to companies: what checkout does when a company goes over its credit limit, and when its invoices are overdue. Quay starts your store with five: Standard, Trusted, VIP, Probation and High Risk. You can assign those as they are or create your own.
Create a policy
- In Quay, open Policies and click Create policy.
- Under Basics, type a Name. Internal notes are optional, and buyers never see them.
- Under Over the credit limit, choose Monitor only, Pay on order or Block new orders. A new policy starts on Pay on order. What each one does: Set Quay’s action over the credit limit.
- Under Overdue escalation, tick Pay on order for unpaid invoices, Block new orders for unpaid invoices, both or neither. Type the day for each one you tick. Day 0 is the invoice’s due date. More on the days: Set what Quay does with overdue invoices.
- Click Save in the bar at the top of the page. Quay opens the new policy.
Assign it to companies
- Open Companies and tick the box beside each company.
- Click Assign policy.
- Choose the policy in Policy and click Apply. It replaces any policy those companies had. No policy takes the policy off them.
For one company, open its page, choose the policy in Policy under Enforcement, then click Save. A company also needs a credit limit before Over the credit limit can act: see Set a company’s credit limit.
To see who is on a policy, open it on Policies. The Summary card shows Companies with a count; click the count for the list.
On Shopify Plus
Under Over the credit limit, the policy page adds the line “Whether checkout takes payment for that order is set in Settings.” That order is the one that would take a company over its limit: see Shopify Plus: take payment for over-limit orders.
What happens next
The policy appears on Policies with its over-limit action, its overdue steps and how many companies use it. Each company you assigned follows it at checkout while your Quay plan covers the company.
