New: see how each company has actually paid you

Quay used to sort every company into Healthy, Watch or High risk. That label was less reliable than it looked: a company with no credit limit set read Healthy only when it had nothing overdue either, and plenty of companies carry no credit limit at all. So in practice Healthy mostly answered “is anything overdue right now”, not “does this company pay well”.

That column is gone. In its place, three places now show how a company has actually paid you: the companies list, the company page, and the Quay card on the company’s own page in Shopify admin. On the companies list and the company page, every company shows one of four: Pays on time, Pays late, Pays very late, or Not rated, or briefly a plain dash while Quay catches up (more on that below). A rated company’s line also names how many orders the verdict is based on; an unrated one gets a short reason instead of a count: sometimes a count of its own (“3 of 5 orders”), sometimes a plain phrase (“Mixed currencies”, “No terms yet”, “Reading history”), and the company page always states the reason in full. The Shopify admin card shows that same line only once a company is rated; an unrated company’s card simply has no payment line, not a broken one. A late $50,000 invoice counts for more than a late $200 one, so one large slow payer can’t hide behind a stack of small on-time ones. A paid order counts for a year after it came due; money still unpaid keeps counting for as long as it stays that way, however old the order, provided it carried payment terms in the first place.

A new company needs at least five qualifying orders before Quay says anything about how it pays, so it’s normal to see Not rated at first, with a short explanation underneath it. That explanation covers: too few qualifying orders so far, an order-history import still running or stuck (a stuck import asks you to contact support, not wait), orders in more than one currency, some orders with no payment record Quay can match, and a couple of narrower cases the company’s own page always names in full. One of those: a company whose past-due orders never carried payment terms shows No terms yet as that explanation, whatever it owes (Quay has no due date to measure punctuality against), so this one stays Not rated even when the company owes money past due right now. That debt doesn’t disappear from view: it’s still there in full in the companies list’s Overdue column and its Balance / Credit limit column, just not folded into a payment verdict. Open the company’s own page and Quay always states the exact reason.

For a little while after this update ships, or if something goes wrong updating your numbers, some companies may show a plain dash instead of a verdict (not a wrong one, just not evaluated yet). That clears itself the next time Quay refreshes your companies list as a whole, normally within about an hour, or right away if you press Refresh at the top of the companies list.

What stayed exactly as it was: your credit limits, your policies, and what checkout does are untouched. Nothing here can set a limit, change a policy, or block an order.

Nothing to turn on: open any company, or the companies list, and it’s there.
