Plus: take payment for the order over the limit, and say why
On Shopify Plus, you now choose in Quay whether checkout takes payment for the order that would go over the limit. This is for companies whose policy puts them on Pay on order over their credit limit. When such a company places an order bigger than its credit left, checkout asks for payment for that one order. Its other orders stay on payment terms while it is within its limit. Once it is over, every order is paid at checkout until the balance is back under.
To turn it on, tick “Take payment at checkout for the order that would go over the limit” in Settings, under Payment terms at checkout, and save. The first time, Shopify asks for your permission when you save. You need a Quay plan to turn it on. Payment terms come off for that order even if your checkout offers no other way to pay, so make sure it has one, or the buyer can’t place the order.
Buyers can see why an order can’t go on payment terms. Add the Payment terms notice block to your checkout once, with the Open checkout editor button in Settings. On the payment step it shows “Payment terms aren’t available for this order” and tells the buyer, for example: “This order is more than your company’s available credit, so it needs to be paid now. Smaller orders can still go on payment terms.” Then comes your contact line from Settings, with your email, or a general line if you left the email blank. It shows only when Quay takes the payment terms off. Shopify doesn’t let apps add the block for you, so this one step is yours.
The changes below apply to every store, on Plus or not.
Company pages say what checkout does with the next order. Under Block new orders, for example, a company page now reads “Orders up to $1,800.00 go through. A bigger order is blocked at checkout.” The Enforcement card names the reason and what it does, such as “Over the credit limit, so every order is paid at checkout” or “Invoice unpaid, so new orders are blocked at checkout.” The Quay card on the company’s page in Shopify shows the same.
Buyers read the same words in their account. When a company’s payment terms are paused, the banner in the buyer’s account uses the checkout notice’s wording.
Settings lists every message buyers can see at checkout. Each reason sits next to its exact wording, and your contact line is shown once, under the email field.
What stays the same:
- Nothing changes at checkout until you act. The rule stays off until you turn it on in Settings, or leave its box ticked when you press Apply on the Suggestions page. If you already had it on, it stays on. Buyers see the notice only after you add the block.
- Stores not on Shopify Plus keep today’s checkout rules. Pay on order still takes payment terms off for a company over its limit, and Block new orders still stops the order. Shopify allows the checkout notice only on Plus, so buyers on other plans see the same words in a banner in their account, if you added Quay’s Account alert block or Finance and payments page.
- Your policies and credit limits are unchanged.
